Frankie struts and frets from Johannesburg to London to Edinburgh, playing out a midsummer's dream...

Last night I saw Harry Potter naked. However, Daniel Radcliffe in the buff was hardly the highlight of the production of Peter Schaffer’s ‘Equus’ at the Gielgud Theatre. Not to belittle him- the lighting was dim and Jacobie and I were seated high in the gallery- and while his performance was very good, full of emotional commitment and presence, it was the performance of Richard Griffiths (from ‘Withnail and I’ amongst many films also including his role as Harry Potter’s rotund uncle) that I enjoyed most of all. The design was spectacular, created by the same designer of the original production in 1973. And the horses were rather striking male dancers, one of whom, we noted in the program, was a QUT graduate! I had forgotten how stunning this play is, and while it’s content is perhaps not as shocking as it once was, it is still poignant and powerful. 4 stars from Jac and Frank.
